All Halliday electric instruments are hand-built from high quality materials, hardware, and electronics. Bodies are available in four standard styles with four different construction methods depending on shape. In all cases, necks are set with integrated heels providing easy access to the upper frets.

Standard Body Styles:

Gratiot – An asymmtric body with a double cut-away and a 24 fret fingerboard. The integrated heel begins at the 16th fret with a blended contour that allows free access all of the upper notes. This style may be built as a thinline with a fixed or tremolo bridge or as a Deluxe hollow body with pinned tailpiece and floating bridge. The body is 12-3/4" wide by 18" long.

Haggerty – This is a single cut-away body with a unique but timeless shape. The 22 fret neck joins the body at the 16th fret. This style may be built as a thinline with a fixed bridge and stop tailpice or Bigsby vibrato or as a semi-hollow with fixed bridge and pinned tailpiece or Bigsby vibrato. The body is 13-1/4" wide by 17-1/2" long.

Woodward – A double cut-away design with symmetric lower bout and asymmetric horns. Available with a 22 or 24 fret neck, the integrated heel with blended contouring allows for easy access to all notes on the fingerboard. This style may be built as a semi-hollow with a fixed bridge and pinned tailpice or Bigsby vibrato, or as a Classic or Deluxe hollow body with floating bridge and pinned tailpiece or Bigsby vibrato. Also available as a bass guitar. The body is 14" wide by 18" long.

Dequindre - The big brother to the Haggerty, this is a large single cut-away body with a 22 fret neck. This style may be built as a semi-hollow with a fixed bridge and pinned tailpice or Bigsby vibrato, or as a Classic or Deluxe hollow body with floating bridge and pinned tailpiece or Bigsby vibrato. Also available as a bass guitar. The body is 15" wide by 19-3/4" long.

Body Construction Details:

Thinline - The body is built with a flat front and back face. A solid center block from the neck attachment to the bridge is maintained to provide the maximum possible sustain, but the sides of the body are heavily chambered to reduce weight and increase acoustic resonance. The top/back joint is positioned half way through the thickness of the body and is typically highlighted with a contrasting layer or trim. Options for this body type are a forearm contour and back relief in the upper waist to provide the most comfortable instrument possible.

Semi-Hollow - The top is hand-carved from solid wood with two parallel braces running through the entire length and thickness of the body. The body is hollowed from a solid block of wood. Instruments bulit in this style gain many of the tonal benefits of a hollow-body instrument, significant weight reduction, and are not significantly prone to feedback even in high gain and high volume situations. Tops are bound around the perimeter of the guitar. Back relief is optional.

Classic - The solid wood top is hand-carved and set on top of a fully hollow body made from a solid block of wood. With the top free to move, a fully resonant tone is developed on sustained notes. However, the relativeley thin body and tuned f-holes help to minimize the tendency to feed back. Tops are bound around the perimeter of the guitar. Back relief is optional.

Deluxe - A body style only available from a small handful of guitar builders worldwide. The top is hand-carved and rather than being glued on top, is actually set into a fully hollow body made from a solid block of wood. A contrasting purfling is inlaid around the edge of the top to highlight the intersection. As with the Classic hollow body, the relativeley thin body and tuned f-holes limit the tendency to feed back. Tops are radiused around the perimeter of the guitar and back relief is standard to provide the ultimate in playing comfort.

Options:

Woods - Top woods for semi-hollow, Classic, and Deluxe bodies are typically chosen for their combination of beauty and tone. Highly figured woods such as claro walnut, curly, flamed, or birdseye maple, pommelle bubinga, curly myrtle, flecked quarter-sawn sycamaore, and Sitka spruce are some popular options. Bodies and necks are made from the same species as each other whenever possible and can be made from any sufficiently stable and hard wood. Standard fretboards are made of ebony with options including rosewood, pao ferro, purple heart, wenge, bubinga, and other dense woods.

Neck Design - One of the factors that most significantly affects the feel and playability of a guitar is the way the neck fits in your hand. When ordering a custom instrument, the player has the unique opportunity to participate in the development of the neck width, depth, profile, and even fret width and height to achieve the ultimate in personalized comfort. All Halliday electric guitars are built with set necks

Scale Length - Standard scale lengths are 24-5/8", 25", and 25.4", but alternate scales are available upon request. Bass guitars are built with a 30" short scale.

Ornamentation -Body and neck bindings can be customized to match or contrast with the body woods made from natural materials or traditional man-made materials such as ivoroid and synthetic toroise shell. Purflings of colored lines, herringbone, abalone, and mother of pearl are all available options. Fingerboard inlays are also available from traditional patterns such as dots, snowflakes, and diamonds to fully custom designs.

Electronics - Preferred pickup makers are TV Jones, Fralin, Lollar, and Seymour-Duncan. However, any other high quality pickups can be used. Virtually any pickup style can be used, although standard single coil and lipstick-style pickups are only available on thinline guitars. Standard controls are pickup switching and master volume and tone controls. Alternate control set-ups such as individual volume controls and coil splitting are also available upon request.

Hardware - Any high-quality tuning machines, bridges, and other hardware are available upon request.
